My CSS-2014 Interview Experience

I appeared for CSS-2014 final Interview at Islamabad on 22nd of December 2014. The day was a cold one and sitting for around two hours in the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) waiting room was quite a test of nerves. Finally I was called in at around 11:30 am. The panel consisted of: 1. Maj Gen (retd) Niaz Muhammad Khattak 2. Mrs. Batool Iqbal Qureshi (Member and BS-22 Officer (Retd) of Secretariat Group) 3. Abdul Wajid Rana   (Memeber and Former Secretary Finance) 4. Mr. Ahmed Bakhsh Lehri Member (Former Chief Secretary Balochistan) The Chairman welcomed me when i entered the room, he started discussion informally by asking question regarding my home district of Chitral it geography, Lawari tunnel, Kalash tribe and their culture, issue of conversion etc. The he referred me over to Madam Batool, who started asking question from my work experience and how my earlier organization i.e. Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) has been very effective in Hunza whil

Price Beating Policy of Homeshopping.pk

One the top online retailer of Pakistan - homeshopping.pk proudly claims to beat any price in the local market, however when applied for one product, I was declined on clumsy ground. Actually online retailers are charging much more than local retailers although they have advantage in the shape of no physical shop and mostly operate from a small cabin office.  Here is what i got from homeshopping.pk as response to my price update request.  "This is to inform you that your Price update request has been disapproved due to the following reasons or anyone of them. 1) The product offered is from some international Vendor. Price update request is only valid for local retailers. 2) The product offered by the local vendor is blacklisted on our database and that could only be due to quality retailed issues. There are times when some other vendors might be giving something for 500 less then our price but then they have no return policy or might just sell some refurbished stock which is e

Visit to Home in Autumn 2014

Sikh Revolutionary Udham Singh

Udham Singh killed Lt Governor of Punjab Micheal O Dwyer-Lt Governor of Punjab in March 1940 in vengeance for Jalianwala massacre. The Lt Governor had endorsed General Dwyer act of massacre.  " I did it because I had a grudge against him. He deserved it. He was the real culprit. He wanted to crush the spirit of my people, so I have crushed him. For full 21 years, I have been trying to wreak vengeance. I am happy that I have done the job. I am not scared of death. I am dying for my country. I have seen my people starving in India under the British rule. I have protested against this, it was my duty. What a greater honour could be bestowed on me than death for the sake of my motherland?

My CSS Experience

I had wanted to appear in CSS since the time I graduated. However because of admission in University for my Master degree in Economics and later on being busy with doing a 9-5 job i had no chance to sit in this rigorous test of knowledge, skills and patience for so long. I applied for it in 2013 and was all set to come to Peshawar from my home town of Chitral when on the very morning when i was travelling, the Lawari road was closed because of heavy snowfall. This hinderance has dashed the hopes of hundreds of aspirants like me who have missed their tests, interviews and jobs because of this unavoidable blockade of the district during winters. For me  I put it to my fate, this being the second time as earlier i had missed a lectureship interview in Mardan's Abdul Wali Khan university.  Fate aside, for those who are not familiar with CSS i would like to add a few line. CSS stands for Competitive examinations of federal government of Pakistan. This is equivalent to IAS of Ind

Once again on KKH

Our smooth journey to Gilgit from Pindi ended up with a sudden break in gorges of the mountainous track leading to Pattan after around an hour travel from Bisham. This is a harsh part of the journey in the Kohistan district of KP. There is no coverage of any mobile network and the time i am writing this is 3 am in the early morning of February 2014. We are in a car, in which along with me are 3 guys of Pk army and a driver. All are in deep slumber specially the driver who took this blockade as blessing and immediately went to sleep. It seems it ll take quite a time for any tangible outcome of this situation. So hoping for the best i am too going to take a nap. Have a good time.

Toba Tek Singh by Saadat Hassan Manto

Tobe Tek Singh Partition of the subcontinent was a painful experience for all those who saw it from their eyes. Its pros and cons are still debated and perhaps we cannot agree on a final point. Whether the united India would have been the superpower now or a bitterly unstable state cannot be accurately predicted. As the wars which the two countries have fought would have been averted in case of united India, the result on the economies would have been huge. The unbearable defence expenditures would have not been as the are now with a minority of the elite reaping the consequent benefits, rent seeking and abuse of power in the name of national security are rampant in both the countries. Restriction on people mobility across border, barrier on trade and others are taking a huge toll on the economies of both countries. Education, health across the border are forbidden fruit for the people of both countries could have immensely positive impact on the social welfare and development of bot
