A tour to Kalash

Time to Harvest!

An exciting detour of Islamabad

Saturday January 28, 2012 We had planned to get today’s flight to Islamabad. The weather was all clear but the plane didn’t  come again. The reason was poor load!! PIA has every other reason to not to fly to Chitral. I went to Chowni Hospital where my uncle was admitted. I was about to give blood for his operation but at the last moment I was sent back because the honorable Major doctor was a asleep and till noon. Came back to office and sat with Sir Sajjad. Went to PIA office for ticket reconfirmation. It didn’t happen because of the online system of PIA was down. Sunday January 29, 2012 This is a season of MALTAS in the Malakand and are scattered everywhere along roadside. The prices are however not in everyone's reach. Today was a memorable comfortable journey from Chitral to Peshawar. It was still yesterday night when we heard about the cancellation of flights. So we had planned to leave Chitral early today. I got up at 05:15 in the morning and left my room at

Islamabad orgy

Sunday Feb 5th, 2012 It was Sunday today and we had planned to go to the sunday market in G9 peshawar which is a big one and has lot to offer in Islamabad. The news from Chitral were not encouraging even today with after a brief sunshine  the weather was very much as the previous day. We had to Karachi Company after the heavy breakfast at the hotel where on inquiry we found that no public transport was going to Chitral today as the Lawari was closed becuase of heavy snowing. The sunday market in Islamabad was too closed today in connection with the Rabbiualawal in the city which added further to our inactivity in Islamabad. We came to abpara from the sunday market and then back to hotel after a brief stay in abpara. Today was also a Kashmir day and luckily all the holidays had fallen on sunday. The holidays are quite a fashion nowadays in Pakistan where the PPP is prompt to annouce one even if someone in Larkana dies or there is any Bhutto family death anniversary come. It is not re

Dormant in Islamabad

Our training in islamabad ended on Feb 2nd and on the early morning of Feb 3rd I got up to catch my flight to Chitral. I felt it better to Contact what was the weather's mode in Chitral and for that I called Asad (my elder brother) in Chitral who obviously was asleep at the time. We got the news of rains and snow in Chitral and instead of going to airport i went into bed only to get at 9 o clock in the morning. worked on a report and then went to pindi in the afternoon to get my new suits which i didn't like at all. It is better to follow your own heart in matters like this rather to go by advice of others. Came back and got a watch and charger for the mp3 on the way. China has so much influenced our market that if can judge by only products you would to be some countryside of China rather in the heart of pakistan. Every thing from electronics to garments and digital stuff have their origins in that country of hardworking people. I came to De Pappae where some meeting wa

A ride to Islamabad

Karakorum Highway Dated: 23 January, 2012 Our stay in Gilgit has came to an end and last night we were told by RPM to get ready for today travel. So it started with me suddenly working up to a phone bell and wondering where I was and it took time for me to figure out the things. The hotel man told me to get up as it was 5 o clock. Quickly I got myself prepared and the nice man had also prepared breakfast for us.  The conveyance came at around 6 o clock and we went to pick Our PM Mr. Amin Beg from his home somewhere in the near town. He was ready and put his luggage which included two bags of Gojal potatoes as well in the jeep and thus was the start of our journey. Coming out of gilgit I saw a signboard of telling that Islamabad is 583 KM ahead which was rather intimidating keeping in view of the treacherous road on which we were going to tread ahead. Also the weather was very much cloudy and it had not seen the face of any flight for the past couple of we

From Pindi to Chitral

Date: 24 January, 2012 The day was a rest day. I saw off Arsalan at his school and then came back to home. I heard that flight had gone to Chitral today after a couple days of interval. I should have gone today as I had no official business left but some private matters were there to be do away with before I go to Chitral as there seemed no immediate retour of twin cities. I went to saddar and took out the last remaining 4K rupees from my account and proceeded to Raja Bazar which is the commercial hub of Rawalpindi and the main wholesale market of Rawalpindi. I strolled through the market asking for anything helpful to counter the extreme cold weather of Chitral. At last after many efforts  I ended with a gas heater which was converted to LPG by the shopkeeper for some additional amount. I took it and a lot many other thing from the the market where the prices were more attractive than Gilgit. With a heavy shopper and an empty pocket I went to saddar. From there I got some minor th

A day of Learning

The next day I got up at around 4 o clock to see myself freezing on top of bed without any blanket upon me. I then went inside the bed and then after a brief nap got up to take bath and shave before breakfast. We left to the second and more fruitful day of the training. Sir. Maqsood although not being quite well went through all the day and mesmerized us all with his knowledge of M&E. Today we almost finished the steps involved in the project Cycle. A brief description is over here. 1.        Problem Identification:  The problem which is to be addressed is the main of the jobs to do. Identify the problem and do not be mislead by the need of the community. 2.        Problem Analysis:  The problem should be analysed and the ones which are similar in their nature should be grouped under the same category so that a cause and effect relationship can be established between them. 3.        Situation Analysis; In SA we will thoroughly study the situation and it will be like

Tired to death in a day

Friday, January 20, 2012  I get to know it was Chilas. We were allowed to go ahead after being check (me twice) by the police official there. We went through Chilas a very much poverty stricken locality in the northern areas. The journey here onward was through all rugged mountains with little or no vagitation to see and the road was all kaacha and unmettaled. It There was a lot of dust on it and we were literally dust in our mouths while going through it. The Bus stopped at Jiglot and then contined onwards. The first beautiful town we came across was Jalalabad and it was on the other bank of the river. We reached Gilgit by 11:30. AKRSP had sent us a vehicle to the bus stand and I in a shoot came to Core office and barged into the training room where My favorite Maqsood Sir was giving lecture on the topic. I introduced myself and sat in them and then quickly acquintaint myself with what is going one. We had lunch in which i ate more than many time of others as I was empty stomach f

Threading the KKH

Thrusday, January 19, 2012 Suddenly I heard Azaan in the air and hurriedly got up and what came into my mind was that I have missed the flght. It was one hour to go and I in all haste I gathered my belongings laptops etc and just ran crazily towards the road and to my bafflement there was no taxi on the road. I dragged my bag and almost ran towards saddar. I got my first taxi who complained that today was the first day of weekly gas loadshedding and how he has been able to get last gas filled after waiting for hours. However he agreed and took me to airport quickly. I checked in and srated to wait in the watign room. Suddenly my started to pinch and to my further bemusment I saw I was wearing Siraj Shoes in the haste. Those were too tight and pinching my foots. The flight was going to happen and we were asked to board the plane. I happily went and suddenly we were in the air. I was rejoiced and was thinking that how quickly I will be in gilgit and that I will do some preparation

A day of inactivity

Wednesday, January 18, 2012 Early I left the lillte champ to his school and got print my ticket from army medical college where lot of medical students were busy with their studies and shoot to the airport to for my gilgit flight. My ticket was booked by Mr. Altaf sb of AKRSP who is a very nice person though I did t meet him but his arranged my ticket just on short notice. At the airport there was a chaos and the waiting room was filled with passengers because flights were delayed due to fog over the air strip there. I sat in the mob of people there and gazed all around to see different people going to Karachi, Lahore, Gilgit and elsewhere in the country. I anxiously wait and prayed for the flight to happen but after long wait to my bad luck it was cancelled and I was dismayed at my fate. With heavy heart I left the airport after collecting my luggages and went back to home. Meanwhile Younis also arrived from Chitral and went to hotel in Islamabad. Altaf Sir was quite kind to make

From Chitral to Islamabad

A Bird Eye View of Hindukush Ranges from Plane. Tuesday January 17, 2012 Today in the morning I went to office and then straight to airport to get the flight to Islamabad. The weather was good and the plane had earlier arrived from Islamabad and came from Peshawar this time to pick me up. Fortunately the usually out of order ATM at Habib Bank was working and I got money so that I could a ticket. At the airport I waited for it taking to an elderly but well-read man who had his masters done in 1962. Not many passengers were there and it seems PIA is quite in loss by the opreation of this flight. A main reason is the increase in Fares of the flight which has made the air travel not in reach of ordinary people in Chitral. A good strategy could to reduce price to attract the passenger going down country by road in this harsh weather. The plane was as usual with very few passengers and took along an elderly mother who was going down country for perhaps her checkups. I really e
