From Pindi to Chitral

Date: 24 January, 2012

The day was a rest day. I saw off Arsalan at his school and then came back to home. I heard that flight had gone to Chitral today after a couple days of interval. I should have gone today as I had no official business left but some private matters were there to be do away with before I go to Chitral as there seemed no immediate retour of twin cities. I went to saddar and took out the last remaining 4K rupees from my account and proceeded to Raja Bazar which is the commercial hub of Rawalpindi and the main wholesale market of Rawalpindi. I strolled through the market asking for anything helpful to counter the extreme cold weather of Chitral. At last after many efforts  I ended with a gas heater which was converted to LPG by the shopkeeper for some additional amount. I took it and a lot many other thing from the the market where the prices were more attractive than Gilgit. With a heavy shopper and an empty pocket I went to saddar. From there I got some minor things from the 15 Rs. Stall and then had a lunch at the savour type restaurant before proceeding to home in the Suzuki wagon. In the evening Mr. Altaf of AKRSP booked a ticket for which I got a printout from the PIA office in Saddar and then came back to home.

I woke up at five o clock thanks auntie who was caring to look that whether I have got up or not. Even my earlier blunder had not changed my way of doing things. I would have again been late and this time miss the flight as I occurred at due time today. I dragged my bag and belonings all the way to saddar from where I got a taxi to airport. In the early morning the check in was quite smooth and after waiting for sometimes we were instructed to board the plane. Mr. Inayat ullah Faizi, the BoD member of AKRSP was also coming to Chitral. The passengers were a few as usuall and we had a smooth ride thourgh and above the mountains to Chitral. The airhostess was adamant that I should fasten my seatbelt which I denied all the way to Chitral. The travel is one of the most beautiful where you come from the plains of potohar into the mountains of Chitral with some beautiful scenes coming across all the way. Just at the landing time I saw AKRSP vehicle coming towards the airport and I was delighted. After landing came straight to the room and installed the heater which worked perfectly.
In the office today I met all the staff and then we had a meeting with ICDP LSO regarding their plans for the coming months for youths. It was somewhat a session where we perhaps lacked ideas that what to do for the youths. However did the exercise and laid out some initial activities for the youth that the LSO will be involved in the coming months so that there is some progress towards the goals of EELY program.

Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus

The much awaited Metro Bus Service is now functional in Islamabad connecting it to the twin city of Rawalpindi. The PKR 45 billion cost (USD 4440 million) of the project was criticized mainly by the opposition parties led by Tehreek Insaaf. However the record time for completion of the project is something which justifies the the financial outlay. In Pakistan Public Sector infrastructure projects are plagued by delays and some are altogether abandoned after partial work. The 23 KM long metro has 24 station. Today I had a glimpse of Pakistan Secretariat Station of it. There is quite excitement among the travelers and many are travelling just to have fun. Few pics here. Although secretariat is closed today being Saturday, still large number of public was seen buying tickets and Metro-Bus Card.  To avoid queuing up the line to buy ticket, a better option is to get a Metro-Bus Card. The card can be reloaded and costs 130 Rs for the first time and subsequently recharg

Telenor easypaisa Gimmicks

Of late this mobile banking service has become a source of nuisance. Instead of providing quality service to its customers, It is trying to dupe them in one way or the other to mint money from them on as bizarre scheme as MOBILE INSURANCE through which they purport to pay 1000 PKR as medical bill in case of medical emergency. The customers are nowadays continuously getting spam calls from Easy Paisa for so called Medical Insurance. I have time and again their representatives categorically that I am not doing it as I have already had it for one year. I was duped by one of their of your representative to go for it saying that it is totally free but later on i found they have deducted around 1000 PKR from my account. I am seriously thinking of changing Easypaisa as my mobile account and as well as Telenor as my network. God forbid, if anything happens, they are not going to pay a single penny on one pretext or the other, while they call this a medical insurance, there is no proof of it

Early in the morning i left for Nankana Sahib to receive Sikh Yatris. I reached there and went to the main Gurdwara with DSP City Nankana Mr. Umer. The Sikh Yatris were seated in around 24 buses and the convoy left for Sacha Sauda Sheikhupura. Police arrangements were on high alert given the security situation. The buses were in shabby condition which the rising temperature during the day proved to be testing for the visitors as majority of them were old men and women. A discussion with the Yatris revealed that youth want to visit Pakistan, but Government of India usually does not approve the visa of Youth. Also, while visiting other countries like USA, those who have visited Pakistan are questioned and sometimes denied visas. However, one thing is for sure that Sikh Yatris were very satisfied with the security arrangement and lot of them expressed their gratitude to the Police men on duty for ensuring their security. The yatris spent the day in the Gurdwara & in the afternoo
